Baby Essentials Checklist for New Parents

Welcome to Parenthood!

Becoming a new parent is one of life's most exciting milestones — and one of the most overwhelming. With so many products on the market, it can be hard to know what you actually need. We've put together this simple, practical checklist to help you prepare for your baby's arrival with confidence.

🛏️ Sleep Essentials

• Crib or bassinet — A safe sleep space is the #1 priority
• Firm crib mattress — Look for breathable, waterproof options
• Fitted crib sheets (x3) — You'll go through these fast!
• Sleep sacks or swaddle blankets — Safer than loose blankets for newborns
• Baby monitor — Audio or video, for peace of mind

👕 Clothing & Comfort

• Onesies (x6–8) — Newborn and 0–3 month sizes
• Sleepers/footed pajamas (x4–6) — Zip-up styles are easiest at 3 AM
• Hats and mittens — Newborns lose heat quickly
• Socks (x6+) — They disappear like magic
• Seasonal outerwear — Snowsuit or light jacket depending on your climate

🍼 Feeding Essentials

• Nursing bras & breast pads — If breastfeeding
• Breast pump — Manual or electric
• Baby bottles (x4–6) — Even if breastfeeding, good to have
• Bottle brush & drying rack
• Burp cloths (x8–10) — You can never have too many
• Bibs — Start stocking up early

🛁 Bath Time

• Baby bathtub — Infant insert included is a bonus
• Soft washcloths (x6)
• Baby shampoo & body wash — Fragrance-free is best for sensitive skin
• Hooded towels (x2–3)
• Baby nail file or clippers — Those tiny nails grow fast!

🚗 On-the-Go

• Infant car seat — Non-negotiable before leaving the hospital
• Stroller — Compatible with your car seat is a bonus
• Diaper bag — Look for one with lots of pockets
• Baby carrier or wrap — Hands-free carrying is a lifesaver

🧷 Diapering

• Diapers (newborn & size 1) — Don't overbuy newborn size
• Baby wipes (unscented)
• Diaper rash cream
• Changing pad — Portable ones are great for travel

🧸 Play & Development

• Play mat with activity arch — Great for tummy time
• Soft rattles and sensory toys
• Board books — It's never too early to start reading!
• Bouncer or swing — A sanity-saver for fussy moments

💊 Health & Safety

• Baby thermometer — Rectal is most accurate for newborns
• Nasal aspirator — The Frida NoseFrida is a parent favourite
• Baby-safe pain reliever — Ask your pediatrician for recommendations
• First aid kit — Baby-specific items included
• Baby-proofing supplies — Start thinking ahead!
